The motifs are recognizable landscapes transformed: forests, crops, meadows and tree canopies become masses of crimson, magenta, scarlet and pink, with variations toward orange, yellow or dull green where vegetation is dry, sparse or stressed. Rivers, lakes and seas turn almost black or very dark blue; skies range from deep blue to cyan. Roads, rooftops, bare earth and camouflage stand out in grays, pale cyans, browns or muted greens. There is no drawn line or ornament: edges come from real boundaries between fields, banks, clearings and built areas.

Aerial views or wide, frontal, highly legible landscapes predominate, designed to compare ground cover rather than create drama. The horizon sits high, fields, forests, rivers and roads form clear patches, and human structures remain small reference points. There is little forced perspective: the image reads like a map you can scan, with contrasting zones that separate healthy vegetation, water, bare soil and built surfaces at a glance.

Texture and techniqueTextura y técnica

It was shot on film sensitized to green, red and near-infrared light, usually with a yellow filter that blocked blue light. Chlorophyll strongly reflects infrared, so living foliage registers in reds; water absorbs it and turns dark. The result has photographic grain, hard daylight contrast, slightly shifted colors in skin, soil and fabrics, and the descriptive sharpness of aerial survey work.

It requires understanding near-infrared reflectance, not just shifting hues, and training data often confuses it with vaporwave or a generic pink filter. Its military and survey origin also makes it less common in commercial photography. Today it contributes a beautiful yet analytical way of seeing: it makes plant health, water and land use visible and can turn landscape into information without losing visual impact.
