In the upper portion, roughly the top third of the frame, the sky shifts from pale sky blue along the top edge to a more intense blue just above the horizon. Below that is a thin, diffuse band of lilac or grayish pink, then a yellow glow that deepens into brilliant orange right at the horizon line. The Sun itself is not visible, but its early light colors the entire edge. The lower half is filled with a dark expanse of clouds seen from above. Their tops, silhouetted against the orange, form an uneven outline of bumps, ridges, and small towers, like a mountain range in shadow. A few upper edges catch a warm, reddish halo, while the rest sinks into very dark browns, almost black, especially in the bottom corners. The texture looks soft and cottony at a distance but remains indistinct, with areas only barely suggested by the grazing light. Near the center, a faint vertical line, slightly to the right, crosses the dark area; it is probably a reflection or a mark on the window. High in the blue, two tiny dark specks can be made out. The scale is immense, and with no human references, it is hard to grasp.","contexto":"According to the source data (NASA Image and Video Library, credit NASA/JSC), this photograph was taken on September 15, 2022, from the International Space Station as it orbited 258 miles — about 415 kilometers — above the Pacific Ocean, south of the Hawaiian island chain. It shows the beginning of an orbital sunrise, as sunlight starts to light up the cloud tops. Which astronaut took the picture is not known; the source only attributes it to JSC, NASA's Johnson Space Center. It is safe general knowledge that, because of its low, fast orbit, the station experiences many sunrises and sunsets during each Earth day.","como_mirarla":"Start with the bands of color at the top and follow them downward, from blue to the intense orange on the horizon. Then look for the silhouettes of the cloud tops: that irregular edge is what turns an abstract gradient into a landscape. Finally, notice the near-darkness in the lower half, where almost everything remains in shadow.","dato_curioso":"The International Space Station takes about 90 minutes to complete one orbit around Earth, so its crew can witness roughly 16 sunrises and 16 sunsets in 24 hours.","preguntas":["How does the experience of a sunrise change when it is seen from orbit rather than from the ground?","Why can a photograph with no people, buildings, or landmarks still convey such a strong sense of place?","What does the dark lower half of the image suggest about what we cannot yet see, even from space?"]},"es":{"titulo":"iss067e362267 — Amanecer orbital sobre el Pacífico","se_ve":"La imagen es un paisaje horizontal, amplio y casi abstracto, dividido en franjas paralelas.
