When I look at it I focus on the polished bone surface with pinkish and cream veins and how the light reveals its pores, fine cracks and marks from hand carving. It is fascinating to think that more than a thousand years ago someone in Iran, between 700 and 900, was spinning thread while perhaps looking at the same sky I try to map with my telescope today.

It looks like a giant button or a bone donut with a huge hole in the middle. Count eleven little eyes looking at you, each with a tiny dot in the center, like little faces. It is pinkish with cream and looks shiny but also a bit scratchy because of its lines. I imagine it spinning very fast on a stick to make thread, like a spinning top. It is tiny, the size of a coin, and it would surely tickle if you touched it because it has bumpy edges.
