Look closely and you will see everything is made of lines. This vertical print in black and grays on cream paper was built with thousands of interwoven strokes to create volume, shadows and light at night. I notice the deep folds of the seated elder's cloak and the thick smoke rising from the two torches. The creamy paper, the date 1597 and the monogram on the right also tell how this print has survived and journeyed to reach us today.

On the left, on a round platform with steps, a man with a pointy hat holds his clothes and looks like he is shouting. On the other side is barefoot Christ with his hands tied, pulled by a soldier with puffy sleeves. I also see pointy spears, a little hanging lantern and, really tiny in the back, some people around a small fire.
